Sartre should be a thrift store as well. Maybe Sartre itself can be the bar/venue. In that case we could also buy out the building next to the bar, or elsewhere, and name the thrift store Willow Tree. We can use the same things I was planning to use with Iván. Swap meet shit, good shit, for good fucking prices. Mexico doesn’t really have thrift stores the way the US does — we can change that. Thrift stores are fucking amazing, I think people would eat it up.
During the Cervantino Festival and during the Guanajuato International Film Festival, we could book bands to play shows for free, have our own art shows, and screen short films. I’ve always thought that Coachella can, and should, be done in other parts of the world. Not everyone can pick up their shit and leave to Indio, California. I live in fucking California and I can’t even do that. But we could make that happen. We can book, I don’t know, acts like Thieves Like Us, Neon Indian, XXYYXX, Tame Impala, etc. and, of course, local acts like Bruno Darío (who I love) and Lorelle Meets the Obsolete (which I also love). A celebration of all things that are artistically good. We could display local art and invite foreign artists. We could screen short films, have some of the festival participants come down to our place as well. Yeah, it’ll be debauchery and decadence, but I also want to bring back those festivals to what they used to be. Not JUST drugs and alcohol and sex, but art too. Bringing drugs, alcohol, and sex back to a meaningful point. Being a trainwreck used to mean something. Remember shit like Woodstock? I mean, fuck, remember Vivienne Westwood and all her contingent? We deserve that here.
…Which brings me to my next point. If we want to book those bands and have them there (which would blow our alcohol sales through the roof, by the by), then Sartre must also be a venue. Not only would it be a bar, first and foremost, but it would also be a venue. (Which makes me think that the thrift store should maybe be elsewhere in the city, we don’t want too much in one place, people will get sick of us…) But we would be a venue. No one would really know that Sartre and Willow Tree are affiliated. It would be kind of a secret. But we’d have hands in both things. Maybe, instead of Willow Tree we could call the thrift store Camus. Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus, it’d be a pretty fucking cool thing. Two French intellectuals bringing the decadent lifestyle to another level via us.

SIDENOTE: On top of studying film, I’ll also be taking some business classes, doing research on owning a bar, and taking bartender courses. Going all-out to prepare is key. We have to go balls deep if this is going to work, which it absolutely will.
